Sennheiser PXC 250 Noise Cancellation Headphones
Have you noticed how hard it is to listen to music on a flight? The PXC250 passes through the music while eliminating much of the annoying noise. You can actually hold conversations more easily (although you will have to explain why you have headphones on while talking).
Features
The PXC250 performs noise cancellation and audio listening. The package includes a carrying case, a 6.35 mm adapter plug (for receivers), and an airplane double socket adapter.
Performance
I have reviewed many headphones and noise-cancelling units and the Sennheiser is the finest unit I've ver used. The clarity and frequency range are wonderful and both classical and rock sounded phenominal. They make others pale by comparison. The PXC250 sits comfortably on the head and even has a couple pads to cusion the band that wraps over the head.
Documentation
The PXC 250 Documentation consists of a double-sided sheet with instruction in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Dutch. It gives the specifications, a warning about playing audio too loud, a list of what is included, a couple paragraphs on what the unit does, and a few helpful illustrations on folding and using the unit.
Ease of Learning and Use
Take out of package. Install a pair of AAA batteries. Place on head. Turn on. Plug into music player or other audio device. Enjoy.
Support
We used the units on a trip to the North Pole and didn't have an opportunity to check out available support. If you can put in the battieries, though, you shouldn't need any help.
Wish List
We would like to see an extra pair of earpads included. Also, how about including batteries? For $150 Sennheiser can afford to include starter batteries. We would also like to be able to adjust the level of noise cancellation. On the NCT units for example, there's a slider to reduce or increase the level of cancellation. A removable audio cable would make the unit neater for noise-cancellation use. On the PXC250 the audio cable is molded into the microphone/battery holder unit. Sometimes we want noise cancellation but aren't carrying a sound player which leaves the audio cable dangling.
Gotchas
The hardest problem we had was refolding the headphones. It isn't a major problem but it is a little annoying. Better illustrations might help.
Warranty
Sennheiser provides a 2 year guarantee.
Value
The Sennheiser PXC250s are fairly priced at $150. That is half the price of the Bose and about double the price of the Noise Busters (which don't fold as well and don't sound nearly as good).
Summary
We love the PXC 250 Headphones. They're great for noise cancellation and just regular music listening. Give a pair a try on your next flight and be amazed at the difference.
